Rustenburg – strong and courageous

Rustenburg, the Platinum capital of the world, was on her knees because of a long protracted mine strike that lasted for months in the beginning of 2014. Desperate stories of people loosing their businesses, loan sharks taking children and ARV’s of HIV positive people as collateral for debt, was shocking.
BUT… Yesterday, 11 November 2014, we saw a different picture. Gert Robberts (www.call42.co.za), Marius Fourie (www.employersforchrist.co.za) and I, visited this city in North West province of SA. We were pleasantly surprised to hear how a group of business men and woman are standing up to make a difference.
“This is where a want to grow my kids, where I want to grow old and where I want to impact the people”, Pieter said.
Riaan: “We are the young lions, we are the gatekeepers, we will change the culture of this city.”
“I want to restore relationships between employers and employees”, said Andre.
This is a snippet of hope in the making. I am so exited about these people who have taken courage despite the shadow of desperation that gripped this city and it’s people in the clutches of labor tension. Let’s pray and support them. Watch this space…
